Clif Bar and American Whitewater are happy to announce the recipients of the 2007 “Flowing River” grants.   The Flowing Rivers campaign, a joint initiative between Clif Bar and American Whitewater, puts money in the hands of people who are protecting the rivers that are running through their backyards.  This year's funding will support initiatives from the Foothills Paddling Club (SC) and the Willamette Kayak and Canoe Club (OR).  The Foothills Paddling Club will use its funding to enhance an access area and purchase water quality equipment while the Wilamette Club will use the funding to organize a safety education weekend.

“These projects not only represent every aspect of American Whitewater’s stewardship goals, but they will also have an immediate and direct impact on the paddlers in their region.” said Kevin Colburn AW’s National Stewardship Director.  American Whitewater would like to thank Clif Bar for providing funding to support whitewater grass root initiatives nationwide.

2007 Funded Projects

Willamette Kayak and Canoe Club – Safety Weekend
The Willamette Kayak and Canoe Club has offered safety education through a weekend training for the past eight years.  The annual Safety Weekend is an opportunity for paddlers of all levels to educate themselves on basic river safety practices and rescue techniques.  The Clif Bar funding will be used to off set costs for the weekend, provide scholarships, and purchase equipment for participants to use throughout the training.

Foothills Paddling Club – Lake Conestee Park
Foothills Paddling Club proposes to use funds to purchase building supplies to construct a kiosk and stairs at a new trailhead for the Lake Conestee Park. The club will also purchase water quality monitoring equipment to use in conjunction with the education programs planned by the Lake Conestee Foundation.
