Founded in 1986, the Appalachian Paddling Enthusiasts (APEs) has grown to be the premier paddling club in NE Tennessee, SW Virginia, and NW North Carolina. Our membership is comprised of individuals who enjoy paddling all types of self-propelled watercraft along the rivers of our region. The APEs provide the forum for individuals of our area to join together in order to help advance the sport of whitewater paddling, the skills of fellow paddlers, share information, and protect the rivers we love.
Chota Canoe Club

Chota Canoe Club was founded in 1969 as a whitewater club in Knoxville, Tennessee. The club began as an informal group of whitewater paddlers in 1969, and then took the name Chota in 1972 when the Little Tennessee River was threatened by the construction of a controversial dam. Today Chota welcomes all paddlers, whitewater and touring canoes, kayaks, as well as stand up boarders. We provide trips and training for paddlers, promote safe boating practices and support conservation.
