PG&E has notified American Whitewater that the Pit 1 reach will flow at boatable levels for much of the month of October 2023 while it is maintaining both units at the Pit 1 Powerhouse. This means that the river's flow will not be diverted into the hydropower project and instead will run at its natural levels, just as it does during scheduled boating releases.

The scheduled release dates of October 6-8, 2023 and October 20-23, 2023 are assured, but the Pit 1 reach should flow at similar levels from October 3 through October 31, 2023. The reach will run at a lower flow on October 2, 2023, but may be boatable that day for craft and boaters suited to low water runs. These projections are subject to change due to actual weather, runoff, and operating conditions.
