Oregon/California Action Alert: Hydropower Relicensing starts on Klamath River

PacifiCorp will hold three public meetings to provide an overview of the First Stage Consultation
Document for the Klamath Hydroelectric Project, FERC Project No. 2082. The dates and locations of
the meetings follows:
January 24, 2001
8:30 am - 11:30 am Project Tour - Oregon Facilities
Meet at Link River Trailhead, Lakeshore Dr, Klamath Falls, OR
1:00 pm - 5:00 pm Public Meeting
Shilo Inn, 2500 Almond Street, Klamath Falls, OR
January 25, 2001
1:00 pm - 4:00 pm Project Tour - California Facilities
Meet at Iron Gate Fish Hatchery, Hornbrook, CA
6:00 pm - 8:30 pm Public Meeting
Yreka Community Center, 810 N. Oregon St, Yreka, CA
January 26, 2001
1:00 pm - 5:00 pm Public Meeting
Best Western Bayshore Inn, 3500 Broadway, Eureka, CA
PacifiCorp operates six diversion dams and seven powerhouses on the Klamath River and one tributary. These project operations dewater significant whitewater reaches and fluctuate flow in other reaches. The dams also are a barrier for migrating salmon. American Whitewater will be working with local constituents to gain an annual schedule of whitewater releases in the dewatered reaches and flows for riverine restoration.
Written comments will be by PacifiCorp by March 27, 2001. Comments should be mailed to: Todd Olson, PacifiCorp, 825 N. E. Multnomah, Suite 1500, Portland, OR 97232.
American Whitewater will be filing formal comments by March 27th. We encourage local paddling groups to coordinate with American Whitewater.
